Mega D’Oro won the Balnarring Cup in Quilly Park colours on Australia Day over 1,600m. He led the field of 10 all the way and won by half a length from Riley’s Rocket.

It was a milestone achievement for trainers Clay Beasy and his grandfather Carlo Vidotto, made all the more exceptional by Clay riding the winner.

Clay and I are lucky to have Richard Anderson backing our partnership. We hope that Mega D’Oro can go on to win more races and that as a team we enjoy more success together.

Clay Beasy said, ‘I’m very happy with the horse, everything went to plan on the day and he pulled up super from the run.

‘At the start of his preparation with us his form was terrible and he got beaten a couple of times then won at Kyneton over 1450m. Coming back to the picnics has been great for his confidence and we’re looking at a race over 1,500m at Cranbourne for him.’

Clay was beaten in 2015 on Fionn McCool by Quilly Park’s Picnic Horse of the Year, Immortal Fire. He added; ‘My grandfather and I winning the Balnarring Cup together is a career highlight. We tried to win a couple of times and thought we’d missed the chance.’

Carlo Vidotto said, ‘I’m so happy for my grandson, it’s lovely for Clay to win the Cup with Mega D’Oro.

‘I’m getting on in years and am hoping that Clay will take over the reins from me eventually.

‘Clay and I are lucky to have Richard Anderson backing our partnership. We hope that Mega D’Oro can go on to win more races and that as a team we enjoy more success together.’

Quilly Park’s Managing Director Richard Anderson said, ‘It was an absolute pleasure to win the Balnarring Cup again, thank you to Trevor Rogers for selecting the horse specifically to win the race.

‘It was a great training effort by Carlo Vidotto and Clay Beasy, especially considering that the horse had never run further than 1,200m before my purchase.

‘The race was well ridden by Clay; he gave his whole effort to win the race and it showed after the amount of energy it took.’

Richard Anderson was interviewed by Picnic Racing Live on Australia Day after Mega D’Oro’s win. Listen to the broadcast by clicking the media file below.
