Quilly Park-bred gelding Laughing Heir finished a length and a half in front of Buena Veloz to win at Ladbrokes Park Hillside on May 9th over 1,800m.
It’s the fourth win for the Street Boss x Pedigree Pays gelding and the second since he’s been in training with Kelvin Southey.
Southey said, ‘We feel that he still has a bit of improvement in him and that we haven’t got to the bottom of him yet.
‘We’ll eventually try him over a bit further, 1,800-2,000m seems to be suiting him at the moment.’
The race before this he met Stakes-performed horses at level weights.
We think he’s pretty smart and expected him to win yesterday based on our opinion of him.
Trainer, Kelvin Southey
‘He’s going to have one more run, probably at Flemington on Saturday week then have a spell. In Spring, we’ll look at some of the Country Cups.’
‘The horses that he beat at Caulfield are the type of horses he’ll meet at a Country Cup, with any type of improvement he’ll do well,’ added Southey.
He’s a nice horse with plenty of up sides. The last furlong was the most impressive part of the race, when he was going away from them.
