Mystyko won over 1,200m at Pakenham on Friday, March 23rd. The strong win for our home-bred Plan the Peace gelding by Sakhee’s Secret comes off the back of a successful campaign at the Picnics.
The strategy of taking him to the picnics might be a blessing in disguise. It gave him enormous confidence.
The patience that Trevor has taken with Mystyko is a testament to his training strategy and the development of the horse.
Richard Anderson, Managing Director, Quilly Park
Quilly Park’s trainer Trevor Rogers said, ‘The horse has always had the ability to do what he did last week. However, we had to teach him to do it.
‘We used the easier grades of the Picnics because we knew he had the ability, he just didn’t know how to use it.
‘The experience gained at the Picnics put him in good stead to perform.’
All through the race the other jockeys were telling me to quicken up, but I didn’t want to knowing how the horse needed to race.
So I dictated the terms and Mystyko took advantage of that in style.’
